The end of a slipper

mag 19
2009

Crocs evocate happy moments. The big slippers that just a few years ago you can only see, luckily, to the feet of paramedics in an hospital, had invaded two years ago the summer footwear market, and had expanded in the winter one with arguable furry versions.
Now, we’ve known, the company sales are decreasing and, precisely, have lost something as 22,4 millions of dollars in the first 4 months of 2009, with a fall of 33%.

Will they last?

Will they last?

With the noble aim to cover potatoes and other feet diseases there’s another new stuff made in USA.
The champions in the pursuit of perfection have, infact, commercialised a feet concealer, capable to make look better something that haven’t disappeared with a good pedicure.
T!ntalize, that’s the name of the revolutionary cosmetic, have many colours and promise to be sweatproof.

With some Barbie style results.

Fashion neologisms

jeans + leggings: and that's all!

jeans + leggings: and that's all!

Leggings were not enough. And skinny jeans too. A fashion that wants extreme trousers, painted on women’s legs, was supposed to create jeggings.
Created by Topshop, the fashion chain that have allowed Kate Moss to become a stylist, this type of clothing is the softer and comfortable version of skinny jeans, but a little more structured than simple leggings.
The result is a pair of trousers really tight that leave nothing to the imagination, in cotton, polyester and spandex, adapted to the girl figure and promise to be less rigid than simple jeans.

Good, fancy and politically correct: Melissa shoes by Zaha Hadid

apr 30
2009

Maybe they’re not so wearable, but the new shoes born from the mind of the designer and architect Zaha Hadid are surely unique and ethically coherent.
The Brazilian company Melissa presents a collection based on the complete eco-sustainability of the production process, that uses a plastic processing technique called thermic injection.

The brand presents the innovative match between architecture, fashion and eco-sustainability in the interesting frame of Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, international key event in the home furnishing sector, in its open day.
Zaha Hadid has been the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize of architecture (chapeau!) and has declared she have enjoyed the synergy with the brand, whose production technology is perfectly married with the sinuous lines that characterize the architect’s style.
Melissa is not new to the collaborations: from Eighties artists as Vivienne Weswood, Judy Blame, Karim Rashid have contributed to join the brand with art.

Colours for everybody!

They’re called Super Lemon, Vibrant Green, Palace Blue.
They’re not summer cocktails on crowded beaches, nor the extravagant names of an Hollywood star’s child.
They’re the colours chosen by Pantone for the Spring Summer 2009 Fashion Colour Report, a sort of Bible for designers created by the main authority in the field of colours for design industry, in which fashion is in full right included.
What strikes is the interpretation given by various designers that have commented the colours: it speaks about optimism, relax, nature and hope, hope and hope.
What intrigues is that such a precious document is downloadable for free and can be used by everybody, without social or wealth distinctions.
Fashion is often elitist, both conceptually and practically (because of impossible prices), and it tends to relate only with itself.

Spring Summer 2009 Colour "Bible"

Spring Summer 2009 Colour "Bible"

Giving a glance to the designer’s comments to Pantone Fashion Colour Report we understand that is not true.
We discover that, however, the idea of a dress come from a more articulate idea, and ideas are always free: if someone wants to find a compromise between being fashion and not adapting to the fashion system trends there’s a solution.
Find one of that bright colours in a vintage foulard, in a forgotten dress, in an unknown shop, can make our ideas concrete and really stylish.
High ideas for the haute couture.
